Configure Email for Remote Email Hosting Print

To configure emails to be hosted externally to you website a couple of steps need to be taken.
Cpanel Access
  1. Log into your cPanel account
  2. Mail > MX Entry
  3. Change Email Routing to "Remote Mail Exchanger"
  4. click Change
This uses the MX records from your domain to determine where to send your emails, Using "Priorty" with lowest number first. Take note of this Zone if you are using your own domain. 

If you are using your own domain this will need to be updated to point to the IP of the Mail server will is configured to accpet your emails.

  1. Click on the HOME icon (Top left)
  2. Domains > Advanced DNS Zone Editor
  3. Fine the Zone from above (normally mail.DOMAIN.com.au) and click Edit
  4. Update the Address to the IP of the email server you are going to use.
  5. click Edit Record.

This change is normally instant but may take some time to propergate around the world.

WHM Access
  1. Log into your WHM account
  2. DNS Functions > Edit DNS Zone
  3. Select the domain you are changing and click EDIT
  4. Find the lowest numbered MX entry (Normally mail.DOMAIN.com.au) as you will need to up that the IP for this Zone
  5. Find the Zone from MX entry and Update the IP, If this is set to a CNAME change to A record and then input the IP.
  6. Under Email Routing change to "Remote Mail Exchanger"
  7. Click Save
