Install Wordpress
To install Wordpress, follow these steps:
- Login to cPanel via http://<yourdomain.com.au>/cpanel using your FTP/cPanel username and password
- Go to Site Software > Wordpress
- Follow the instructions to install Wordpress (if you want to install it in the root domain name, remove the pre-filled 'wordpress' from the Installation URL section
Configure Wordpress
After Wordpress has been installed, assuming you installed it to the root domain, you can access the dashboard via:
http://<yourdomain.com.au>/wp-admin
...and login using the admin username and password you specified during installation.
Once you’ve logged in to Wordpress’ dashboard, go through and fill out all the basic fields. You may also wish to review other settings found in the left-hand sidebar.
Choose a Theme
At any time you wish, you can change the “theme” that Wordpress uses. From inside Wordpress, the “Appearance” section allows you to browse through official Wordpress themes; alternatively you can do a Google search for “wordpress themes”, for example, and for most of those you can download a file which you then upload into Wordpress to install that particular theme.
Many of the new, modern themes have configuration options themselves concerning layout, positioning, colours, header photos, etc.
Security
It is imperative that Wordpress be kept up-to-date, as it is a common target for attackers seeking to exploit your website or hosting account.
At a minimum, we recommend:
- Ensuring Wordpress' automatic minor updates are performed
- When notified in the dashboard, accept upgrades to major version releases
- Install the WordFence security plugin
- Keep regular backups of your website
