Adding an additional domain name to your existing cPanel hosting account Print

  • 0

If you have registered an additional domain name and want to use that domain name in your existing hosting account with Precedence, this guide will help you add the domain to cPanel, then set it up for various services.

  • Ensure the nameservers are pointing to Precedence
    • If you registered the domain through Precedence, this will happen automatically
    • If you registered the domain elsewhere, then change their nameservers to the following:
      • ns1.cp.pre.net.au
      • ns2.cp.pre.net.au
  • Add the parked domain in cPanel
    • Login to cPanel and go to Domains
    • Click Create a new Domain
    • In the  "Domain" text box, type or paste the domain name, and select "Just use ..."
    • Assuming you want this domain name to point to the existing website on this hosting account, leave the "Share document root" checkbox checked
    • Click Submit

At this point, visiting the domain name in a web browser should redirect to the website associated with this hosting account. If you receive an SSL error, it's likely because an SSL certificate has not yet been generated. Either wait a few minutes for this to happen automatically, or trigger it immediately by going to cPanel > SSL/TLS Status and clicking Run AutoSSL.

If you would like to create new email accounts using this domain name, you can do this via cPanel > Email Accounts.

Or, if you would like this domain to be an alias of the domain you already use for your email, do this by going to cPanel > Forwarders and clicking "Add Domain Forwarder".

If you just need to update the DNS to configure external services, do this by going to cPanel > Zone Editor.
