How to set up an email account in Microsoft Outlook 2003 Print

These instructions apply to Microsoft Outlook 2003. If you have another version of Outlook, the instructions will be different, but the same basic process will apply.

Before you start, make sure you know your email address and password for the email account you are setting up.

Adding a new email account

  1. Go to Tools > Email Accounts and click New
  2. Select "Manually configure server settings or additional server types". click next
  3. Select "Internet E-mail". Click next.
  4. Fill out details with your infomation.
    1. User Information
    2. Your Name: The name you'd like to appear as the sender
    3. E-mail Address: someone@yourdomain.com
    4. Server Information
    5. Account Type: IMAP
    6. Incoming Mail Server: mail.yourdomain.com
    7. Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): mail.yourdomain.com
    8. Logon Information
    9. User Name: someone@yourdomain.com  (NB: It is your FULL email address)
    10. Password: yourpassword
    11. Click Remember Password.
  5. Click on "More Settings" button.
  6. Click on "Outgoing Server" Tab.
    1. Tick "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" and select "Use same settings as my incoming mail server"
  7. Click on "Advanced" Tab.
    1. Server Port Numbers
    2. Incoming server (IMAP) 993
    3. Tick "this server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)"
    4. Outgoing Server(SMTP): 465
    5. Use the following type of encrypted connection: SSL
    6. Server Timeouts
    7. 1 Minute
    8. Delivery
  8. Click OK
  9. Click Next, Click Finish, and then click OK.
