How to change your email account password in cPanel Print

  • 1

If you don't know the password for an email account or want to change it to something else, and if your email service is managed by us through your cPanel hosting account, then these steps will help you out.

First, access the cPanel control panel for your hosting account. The easiest way to do this is through our Client Area (if you do not know your login details for our Client Area, click here for help.)

Open Client Area

From there, click on the appropriate hosting account under the Your Active Products/Services, then click the Email Accounts icon.

(Alternatively, if you know your hosting account's cPanel username and password, you can login to it directly via mail.example.com/cpanel, and then choose Email Accounts. Replace example.com with your domain name.)

Once on the Email Accounts page, scroll down until you see the list of email accounts, then click the Manage button beside the email account you want to change. Look for the "New Password" box, and either type in the new password or click Generate for a random one, then scroll down and click the Update Email Settings button. Be sure to save the new password to your password manager!

If this was successful, your password will be changed immediately, so you will now need to enter that new password into any device that connects to that email account (e.g. Outlook and mobile devices).

For help locating the email settings for various email programs, see our Email Help section and look for the "How to set up..." guides we have for a number of different platforms.
