Giving Precedence access to your Google Analytics account Print

If you already have Google Analytics installed on your website, then the following instructions will grant Precedence access to that existing account so that your existing Analytics tracking can also be used on a new website.

Do you already know how to login to your Google Account?

Your Google Account will be associated with an email address, and will let you use Google services such as Google My Business, Google Analytics, Google AdWords, etc. You will also have a Google account if you have an @gmail.com email address, although we recommend you always have a Google Account that uses an email address at your company domain name, so that the account always stays with your business.

Can you login to Google Analytics using your Google Account?

To check that you can access your Google Account and that it has access to the Google Analytics on your website:
  • Open https://www.google.com/analytics/, then click the SIGN IN link in the top right, then choose Google Analytics.
  • If it prompts you to login to a Google Account, try logging in with the email address and password associated with your Google Account.
    • If it said your password was incorrect, then click the "Forgot password?" link, and follow the prompts
    • If it said there is no Google Account associated with that email address, then consider if another email address might be used; if not, then you might need to create a new Google account and Precedence sets up a brand new Google Analytics account for your new website
  • If you are able to login successfully, then (if it hasn't taken you there already) go to https://www.google.com/analytics/ > SIGN IN > Google Analytics again
    • If it is prompting you to set up Google Analytics from scratch, then it means this Google Account doesn't have access to your existing Google Analytics. Try another Google Account that you might have, otherwise, Precedence will need to set up a brand new Google Analytics account for your new website
  • If after accessing the Google Analytics service it is showing you metrics about your website — great news! This means you have access to the Google Analytics service.

Invite Precedence to have access to your Google Analytics account

Once you're inside Google Analytics:

  • If you have multiple accounts, check that you've selected the correct account for this website in the drop-down at the top
  • Click the "ADMIN" button in the bottom left of the sidebar, with the cog icon.
  • Under the first column labelled "Account", click User Management, then click the + icon in the top right, choose "Add new users", enter the email address developer@precedence.com.au, check all permissions boxes under the "Permissions" heading, then click the Add button in the top right.
That's it! Please tell us when you're done (or reach out if you run into any troubles), and then we can proceed with the configuration of Google Analytics on your website using your existing tracking account.
