Giving Precedence access to your Google Tag Manager account Print

If you already have Google Tag Manager installed on your website, then the following instructions will grant Precedence access to that existing account so we can continue to use it on your new website.

Do you already know how to login to your Google Account?

Your Google Account will be associated with an email address, and will let you use Google services such as Google My Business, Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, Google AdWords, etc. You will also have a Google account if you have an @gmail.com email address, although we recommend you always have a Google Account that uses an email address at your company domain name, so that the account always stays with your business.

Can you login to Google Tag Manager using your Google Account?

To check that you can access your Google Account and that it has access to the Google Tag Manager on your website:
  • Open https://www.google.com/analytics/tag-manager/ then click the SIGN IN link in the top right, then choose Google Tag Manager.
  • If it prompts you to login to a Google Account, try logging in with the email address and password associated with your Google Account.
    • If it said your password was incorrect, then click the "Forgot password?" link, and follow the prompts
    • If it said there is no Google Account associated with that email address, then consider if another email address might be used; if not, then you might need to create a new Google account and Precedence sets up a brand new Google Tag Manager account for your new website
  • If you are able to login successfully, then (if it hasn't taken you there already) go to https://www.google.com/analytics/tag-manager/ > SIGN IN > Google Tag Manager again
    • If it is prompting you to set up Google Tag Manager from scratch, then it means this Google Account doesn't have access to your existing Google Tag Manager. Try another Google Account that you might have, otherwise, Precedence will need to set up a brand new Google Tag Manager account for your new website
  • If after accessing the Google Tag Manager service it is showing you a published workspace — great news! This means you have access to the Google Tag Manager service.

Invite Precedence to have access to your Google Tag Manager account

Once you're inside Google Tag Manager:

  • Locate the account corresponding to this website and click the cog icon to the right of the panel, this will access the Admin section of this account
  • Under the first column labelled "Account", click User Management, then click the NEW button, enter the email address developer@precedence.com.au, change Account Permissions to "Admin", then for any containers listed, change the Container Permissions to "Publish", and finally click the ADD button.
That's it! Please tell us when you're done (or reach out if you run into any troubles), and then we can proceed with the configuration of Google Tag Manager on your website using your existing account.
